Potential parents of John Peacock (about 1710 - 1742)
The above John Peacock may have been the child of a whole range of Peacocks.
Potential families
1. When John married at Little Hallingbury in
1738 he was said to be 'of Harlow'. We need to follow up this lead since
we know there was a Robert Peacock living there in 1708.
Unfortunately, the Parish Registers for Harlow were stolen in about 1800 and
baptism records do not exist.
2. After his marriage John returned to Sawbridgeworth and his son, John, was born there in 1738. There was an earlier family of Peacock in Swbridgeworth. A George Peacock who died in 1681 and his wife May who died in 1684 had a son called George in Sawbridgeworth, born about 1675. This George may have had children, but we have not had time to follow this potential Sawbridgeworth link up at the moment..
3. There is a William Peacock (abt 1670 - 1741) of Fyfield who is a potential father of John Peacock. He had a family of children in Fyfield, including a John Peacock, baptised in 1709 and a William in 1705. The baptism of this John in 1709 means that he is about the right age to the same person as John Peacock (about 1710-1742). This would be in line with the latter John naming his only two children John (b1738) and William (b 1740).
4. There is a very large family living in Stanstead Mountfitchet in the early 1700s. We have not yet found any person that equates with the above John Peacock (about 1710-1742), but further investigation is needed.
5. There are other Peacock families in the area around Matching that need to be investigated.
Conclusion.
At this stage it is not possible to say who was the father of John Peacock (about 1710-1742).
Much further work is required.
